These images are from Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Chennai. It may not be of the scale that is generally seen in cities like Mumbai, however, the festival here offers a unique perspective into human emotions and a culmination of the society coming together to celebrate Lord Ganesha. While the focus of documenting festivals has always been the core event of the festival, I rather chose to focus on the human side of the festival, the emotions of the people, and our cultural fabric. One particular image that had a lasting impact on me was the one in which Periyar, Pillayar and People were together in a single image. Tamilnadu is a unique state that has reverence for both reasoning and belief; probably that’s the reason for its unique cultural value and its affinity towards language, along with maintaining a balance of revolution and belief. These images are from 2023 & 2024 and I’ll continue to document the festival in the years to come.
